Our atelier in Zurich has been the birthplace of exceptional footwear since 1947. Here, traditional craftsmanship techniques passed down through generations meet modern precision and sustainable innovation.
Every shoe that leaves our workshop carries the mark of twelve different artisans, each a master of their particular craft. From the pattern maker who translates design into reality, to the finisher who brings the final polish, every step is executed with unwavering attention to detail.
Each pair passes through twelve pairs of hands before it earns the SCHRITT name: pattern makers, cutters, closers, lasters, welters, and finishers, every one a specialist trained for years in a single discipline.
New artisans apprentice for a minimum of three years before working unsupervised on a client pair. It is a slow way to build a team, but it is the only way we know to protect the standard our name carries.
The upper is pulled over the wooden last and tacked down one pleat at a time, working from the toe back to the heel. A lasting pincer, a hammer and roughly forty minutes of steady tension decide the shape the shoe will hold for the next decade. The tacks come out again the following morning.
Lasting bench, Basel atelier
Our atelier exists at the intersection of workshop and laboratory. Natural light floods work surfaces calibrated for color accuracy. Tool walls organize implements by function and frequency. Each station is purpose-built for specific operations: pattern cutting, lasting, finishing, quality inspection. This is where Swiss precision is not just practiced but perfected through daily discipline.
The rib is raised on the insole, the welt is stitched through it, and the outsole is stitched to the welt. Three operations that keep the foot separated from the ground by cork and leather rather than adhesive. It is also what lets the shoe be resoled without ever touching the upper.
